The evaluation was performed by conducting a test on two similar concrete specimens.  The concrete specimens were approximately 12 inches square and approximately 4 inches thick.  The weight of the specimens was approximately 45 pounds.  The heat source for the test consisted of a 250 watt infra red light bulb placed in a 12" x 12" open-face concrete box.  Two identical heat sources were constructed, one for each concrete specimen.  The heat source was directed on the face of the concrete specimens.  The heat source apparatus was placed an equal distance from the concrete specimens.  Temperatures of the concrete surface were taken prior to applying the heat source.  The temperature of the concrete was measured by using a digital reading temperature gun.


Two tests were conducted on the concrete specimens.  The first test consisted of directing heat on the test specimend for approximately 9 hours and recording the temperature of the concrete on the front side in which the heat was applied and the back side for a heat transfer.  The results of the test are presented below.

The second test consisted of applying heat to the concrete specimens and measuring the heat rise on the back side of the test specimen over a period of time.  After approximately 4 hours, the heat source was removed and the front side and back side temperatures were recorded.  In addition the decline of temperature on the back side of the concrete specimens was recorded.  The results of the test are presented below.

Summary


The test results indicate that the Delcoat® coating provides a significant reduction in heat transfer through concrete when applied to the concrete.  A 30 percent reduction in heat was recorded on the side of the concrete which was heated and a 20 percent reduction of heat transfer was recorded on the back side of the concrete when the specimen was coated.  The test results indicate that there would be a reduction of heat transfer through concrete walls when Delcoat® is applied to the walls.
